I've become fairly proficient with my digital camera. My traditional film photography foundation, however, is shaky at best--the film cameras I've used have always been point and shoot. I was never one of the cool kids who wound their own film and took angst-ridden shots.
Professionally, I know all about the care and feeding of prints and negatives. More than 10 years ago now, I took over management of a scanning project (for access purposes, not preservation!) of a large- and medium-format glass plate negative collection. I learned more about aperture, histograms, depth-of-field, you name it. I was hooked. Cameras kept following me home. It's time to figure out how to use them. Here I'll record the journey.
